The warranty may sound like the least interesting part of your solar system, but it is in fact one of the most important parts! We highly recommend that you fully research the warranty information of any solar product you intend to invest in. Many parts of a solar system are designed to last upwards of 10, 15 & 20 years. It is therefore wise for you to safeguard your investment with a long term, comprehensive and reliable warranty.

While some warranty elements are standard across most products, the devil is in the detail. Understanding the different types of warranties and what they offer can make a huge difference to the value of your investment.

Some of the most common and important types of warranty to understand are:

Performance Warranty

This type of warranty protects against the deterioration of the solar cells. This will generally be for a 25 year lifespan and broken down into expected performance over the first 10 and subsequent 15 years. This is often considered to be a weak form of warranty as the manufacturer can claim different causes for the degradation of the cells.

Product Warranty

Product warranties are provided by the manufacturer, not the solar installer. This warranty covers issues with the material, workmanship and manufacturing of the product. Generally these warranties last at least 10 years and provide better protection than the performance warranty.

Inverter Warranty

One of the most common faults of a solar system will come from the inverter. It is therefore important to have a good, long term warranty for your inverter. These will generally include a 5 year warranty with the option to extend. We always recommend that you purchase an extension.
